EN24 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel. The nickel gives it more toughness than EN19 and lets it harden through thicker sections, so it is the grade engineers specify for heavily loaded shafts, gears and pins.

Good to know
EN24 keeps good impact strength at high tensile levels, which is why it is used where a failure would be costly.
It can be supplied in higher tensile conditions for special applications. Ask if you need something other than Condition T.

EN24 questions
Is EN24 the same as 4340?
EN24 (817M40) is the British equivalent of AISI 4340. Both are nickel-chromium-molybdenum steels with very similar properties.
Why is EN24 more expensive than EN19?
The nickel content costs more, and in return you get better toughness and through-hardening in larger diameters.
